SoccerPlus CT
Holds 1st Media Day
Farmington The Connecticut
media got to meet the newest sports team in the
state earlier this afternoon when
SoccerPlus CT welcomed them to their
Farmington home.
The day started with an
introduction by J.P.
Dellacamera "the voice of women's soccer" who
has done soccer play-by-play for
the World Cup, Olympics and US National Team,
then concluded with an open practice
to the media.
Members of WFSB Channel 3 and Fox
61 were on hand as well as the Hartford Courant
and New Britain Herald, among other local
newspapers.
In addition, many Connecticut
soccer legends were in attendance, including
former UConn mens head soccer coach Joe
Morrone.
Head Coach Tony DiCicco, a
Wethersfield native, spoke about bringing a team
to this region and how it will help soccer
thrive in this state.
Coaching this team is so
exciting for me, DiCicco said. Our players are
educated, articulate and polite. These are elite
players. We have future professionals, current
and future national team players and they are
fun to coach.
Following DiCiccos address to
the media, he invited all players in attendance
to step up to the microphone and introduce
themselves.
Many of them are associated with
this state; whether it is with their club, high
school or college soccer teams.
We wanted to create a team for
top players with Connecticut ties, an
environment where they could improve their games
and get closer to their dreams, added DiCicco.
This was the first appearance in
front of the media for SoccerPlus CT
as they begin their WPSL schedule this Saturday
when they travel to Boston to take on the Bay
State Select. Kick off is set for 7 PM.
