Tony DiCicco, who coached the U.S. women's
soccer team to an Olympic gold medal and a
World Cup title, announced Monday he will
head SoccerPlus Connecticut, a new team in
the Women's Premier Soccer League.
DiCicco, from Wethersfield, will be the
owner and coach for the team, which will
play in the eight-team Eastern
Conference-North Division. The league, in
its 10th season, plays from May 1 to Aug. 1.
North Haven's Tiffany Wiemer, the 2005 Big
Ten player of the year who scored 91 career
goals at Penn State, is the first major
signing for the team. Ex-UConn standouts
Kristen Graczyk and Jen Tietjen are on the
initial roster.
